NAAFE is excited to announce the Best Student Paper Award, sponsored by NOAA, will be offered at NAAFE 2023 Woods Hole. We encourage eligible students to start preparing for this prestigious award. See below for deadlines and important dates, eligibility requirements, and paper formatting rules.
The purpose of this award is to recognize the most outstanding paper presented by a graduate student at the biennial Forum. The review committee will select the best paper using criteria for refereeing papers in academic journals such as MRE. Selection of the winning paper will be based on creativity, originality and contribution to theory, methods and/or application. Papers may be on any aspect of the economics of fisheries or aquaculture, fisheries resource management, seafood trade and markets, fisheries or aquaculture sector development, or related topics.
A prize of $500 plus a partial travel stipend of up to $1500, plus free student conference registration will be awarded. The travel stipend may be used to cover airfare, lodging, and/or other allowable travel-related costs associated with Forum participation, up to a total of $1500. Any costs over and above the $1500 stipend must be covered by the student or their institution.
Paper submission will be open from 27 Jan – 24 Feb 2023. You must have your abstract accepted for NAAFE 2023 Woods Hole in order to submit a full paper for consideration for the BSP Award. Abstract submission will be open from 9 Dec 2022 to 13 Jan 2023.

9 Dec 2022 – 13 Jan 2023: Submit your abstract for presentation at NAAFE 2023 Woods Hole.
27 Jan 2023: BSP authors notified of abstract acceptance.
27 Jan – 24 Feb 2023: Submit your full paper for consideration for the NAAFE 2023 Best Student Paper Award.
27 Feb – 29 Mar 2023: Paper review period.
~30 Mar 2023: BSP Award winner selected.
